Agrarian Chamber: Poor harvest will reduce the profitability of livestock production

PRAGUE (MEDIAFAX) - Farmers are still about a quarter of the harvest, estimated that this year's harvest will be up to one-fifth lower than the long-term average. The domestic consumption is enough, but the outage affects the profitability of livestock production, said Wednesday Josef Kubiš, Chairman of the Commodity Grains Council of Agricultural Chambers.

"The domestic consumption yields enough, but it is necessary to secure enough raw materials. To not exported and imported in the spring did not," said Kubis.

The increased price of corn, which may vary according to Kubis and around 5,500 crowns per ton, could thus continue to reduce livestock production. "There is a danger that they will decrease number of cows," he added. Farmers will therefore lobby the Ministry of Agriculture to ensure sufficient domestic resources and develop a long-term agricultural concept. If the numbers continue to decline such as pigs, can radically increase the price of meat. "In a year might become necessary to chop 200 to 250 crowns," said Kubis.

It is now nearly nine tenths (88.72 percent) of winter barley under the roof. Its average yield is compared to last year but fell by a third to 4.07 tons per hectare. Farmers harvested yet less than a quarter (22.72 percent) sown area of ??cereals, that is 300,600 hectares, this year's harvest run faster than last year. "The slowest harvest underway in the Region, which is still only 11 percent of harvested area of ??cereals and oilseed rape 24 percent. This region was most affected by adverse weather conditions," said Department of Agriculture.

The only cereal that has improved year on year rate of return is rye, which amounts to 4.76 tons per hectare.

Overall, the yield decreased by 1.06 t / ha to 4.31 t / ha. Causes of low productivity Kubis sees the weather, especially during the winter holomrazech when the temperature dropped well below -25 ° C. Farmers had to part then plowed areas, followed by drought and frost in May, during which the temperature fell to about - 8 ° C.
