Czech Republic - Retail sales in September rose by 0.4%, with successful clothing and footwear


Sales in the automotive segment, adjusted for seasonal factors rose in September at constant prices by 0.4% yoy adjusted for the number of working days increased by 0.2%. Not seasonally adjusted sales decreased by 3.3%, partly due to two days of lower number of working days this year than last year.

Seasonally adjusted sales in retail trade including sale and repair of motor vehicles in September at constant prices increased by 0.4% yoy adjusted for working days by 0.2%. Seasonally adjusted sales dropped by 3.3%. Development, among other things related to the lower number of working days (-2), which led to a reduction in sales assortments sensitively responding to the different number of annual working days, ie motor vehicles and repair, non-food items and fuel.In contrast, the sale of food had a different number of working days significant influence.

Seasonally adjusted sales in sale and repair of motor vehicles (CZ-NACE 45) at constant prices increased by 2.8% yoy adjusted for working days by 1.5%. Seasonally adjusted sales dropped by 4.4%, of which repairs by 10.8% and sales of motor vehicles (including spare parts) by 3.4%.

In retail sales including automotive fuel (CZ-NACE 47) seasonally adjusted sales at constant prices decreased by 0.6% yoy adjusted for working days by 0.4%. Seasonally adjusted sales dropped by 2.9%, of which food by 5.9%, non-food goods by 1.4% and fuel by 0.8%.

From the observed items had the greatest impact on the overall decline in the sale of food in specialized and non-specialized stores (10.1%, respectively. 5.6%). Developments in this product line are determined primarily by sales of enterprises with 100 or more employees, which account for about 80% of total sales of food businesses, which showed a decline of 4.4%. Sales also fell in specialized stores selling household products (+3.6%), with information and communication equipment (-3.5%) and pharmaceutical, medical and cosmetic goods (+2.6%). On the contrary, supported by consumer demand special discounts concentrated on buying clothing and footwear (11.6%), although high growth was partly due to the low starting base. Continued interest in shopping over the internet or mail order services (+3.9%) and products for culture, sport and recreation (-2.8%).

Price deflator (CZ-NACE 47) to the corresponding period of the previous year (excluding VAT) amounted to 101.4% and was influenced mainly by higher prices of fuel and food. On the contrary, prices continued to drop in stores of information and communication equipment.

For the entire third quarter of 2012, sales in the automotive segment declined in real terms by 1.3% (in the 3rd quarter of 2012 had one working day less) in the automotive segment by 2.8% and in the retail trade (including sale of automotive fuel) by 0.7%.Food sales fell by 3.2%, for fuel and non-food items have increased (by 0.8%, respectively. 0.6%).
