NATO Prague will discuss its extension to the Balkans


PRAGUE (MEDIAFAX) - The main rules of the annual meeting of the NATO body, which takes place this weekend at the Prague Congress Centre, the procedure alliance in crisis in Syria, the situation in Ukraine and the accession of new states. Deal about the more than 300 delegates, said on Friday President of the Parliamentary Assembly Karl Lamers NATO.

To Prague gathered delegates of all 28 NATO member countries and guests from countries that want to join the alliance. Would engage in joint military foreign policy wanted to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro and Georgia. The metropolis should come and presidents of these states. Speak at a meeting of NATO would have a Prime Minister Petr Necas (ODS) and President of the Chamber of Deputies Miroslava Nemcova (ODS).

The situation in Syria is serious according to NATO. "Aggression against civilians is unacceptable. Want to create a safer climate in this area, and Congress would have us do to help," said Karl Lamers.

The President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly said that the delegates will also discuss the situation in Ukraine. "NATO in active cooperation with the Ukrainian Parliament elections AIU we had observers. S election situations, however, we were not satisfied," said Lamers with the fact that, according to observers, NATO elections were fair, transparent and did not inform the media about them balanced.

Delegates also discussed the future of the alliance from an economic standpoint. "Ongoing economic crisis is a real challenge for the alliance, and we can not afford to cut budgets in a way that would endanger our security," said Lamers.

Another important topic will be the downloading of NATO forces from Afghanistan. "Alliance forces should withdraw from that country in 2014. However, we continue to support the country's security forces and maintain stability there. Otherwise, the entire mission was not successful," said a representative of NATO.

The budget cuts also discussed Thursday in Prague, Czech Army High Command. The cuts will also apply to foreign missions, and just in Afghanistan. At the summit, the alliance should also discuss the problem of pirates off the coast of Somalia, about Iran's nuclear program, whose relations with the countries of North Africa.

NATO representatives came to Prague after ten years. The last was Congress in the Czech Republic in the autumn of 2002, when NATO leaders invited to enter Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.
