Japan's first futures contract on LNG in the world



ColosseumJapan is the largest importer of liquefied natural gas and the world's first of its planned listing on the stock exchange in the form of futures contracts. This should be done within two years. These contracts will settle in cash in U.S. dollars based on the spot cost of LNG delivered to Japan. Japan last year paid $ 64 billion for importing a record 87.3 million tons of LNG. Cooled and liquefied gas, which is intended for carriage in tanks in the last year, traded at an average price of $ 16.7 per MMBT. It's almost six times more than the average price of natural gas traded on the NYMEX exchange, which last year amounted to $ 2.83 per MMBT. Ministry of Commerce wants the future to attract traders who do not have access to the necessary infrastructure such as re-liquefaction terminals.Japan also wants to encourage more LNG buyers in Taiwan and South Korea, in order to increase the liquidity of traded contracts. and # 160;
