Germany - car sales unexpectedly fell in March by 17% and then 13% 1Q


New car sales in Germany unexpectedly fell in March, up by 17% to 281,184 vehicles. The decline was the largest since October 2010.
In the first quarter, sales declined by 13% to 673,957 vehicles.

The decline is attributed primarily to increased consumer uncertainty in relation to the development of the European debt crisis.

Most sales in March fell French concern PSA Peugeot Citroen with a decrease of 41% for full Peugeot and Citroen at 36%. VW sales decreased by 21%, Audi of 9.7%.
Growth in sales of SEAT and Skoda.

Production of cars in German factories in March fell by 13% to 474,900 vehicles. 1Q decline was 11%.
