Czech Republic - Retail in February fell by 1.3%, significantly contributed to the automotive segment


Sales in the automotive segment, adjusted for seasonal factors fell in February at constant prices by 1.3%. Yoy adjusted for the different number of working days and calendar sales decreased by 1.7%, not seasonally adjusted sales dropped by 4.7%. Decreases for both automotive segment, and stores itself.

Seasonally adjusted
sales in retail trade including sale and repair of motor vehicles in February dropped by 1.3% year on year and adjusted for the number of working days and calendar of 1.7%. Seasonally adjusted sales dropped by 4.7% , a decline in revenues, the automotive segment in the retail trade (see Table 2). In February 2013 had one working day less and calendar.

Seasonally adjusted sales in sale and repair of motor vehicles (CZ-NACE 45)at constant prices decreased by 1.3% yoy adjusted for the number of days by 5.4%. seasonally adjusted sales dropped by 7.1%, of which 7.9% of the repair and sale of motor vehicles (including spare parts) by 7.0%.

In retail sales including automotive fuel (CZ-NACE 47), seasonally adjusted sales at constant prices fell by 1.3% yoy adjusted for the number of days by 0.2%. Seasonally adjusted sales dropped by 3.6%, of which fuel by 7.2% and food by 5.0% and non-food goods by 1.5%.

Decrease most experienced surveyed product groups, with the greatest impact had lower sales in non-specialized stores with food, where sales fell by 4.8%.Sales also fell in specialized stores with products for sport, culture and recreation (13.1%), food (7.0%), and household products (by 2.8%) and pharmaceutical and medical goods and cosmetics (1.6%). On the contrary, growth was retail computer and communication equipment (3.7%) and clothing and footwear (2.7%). Continued increased consumer interest in shopping over the internet or via mail order (up 20.8%).

Price deflator (CZ-NACE 47) to the corresponding period of the previous year (excluding VAT) amounted to 99.8%. The highest annual growth in prices was recorded for food and pharmaceutical, medical and cosmetic products, while most non-food items continued price reductions, most in the range of computer and communications equipment.
