Employment in the euro area was stable 2Q2010

Employment eurozone was stable in the second quarter, as well as January-March, confirmed the quarterly estimate of Eurostat. Number of economically active people in the EMU amounted to 144.3 million. Until 4Q 2009 employment declined continuously six quarters. Compared to the same period last year, the number of jobs decreased by 0.6%. Loss of jobs in agriculture, industry, transport, trade and telecommunications services and construction offset the increase in new jobs in services, including financial, government, education and health

The available data reported the highest growth in employment, Denmark and Finland, as well as Belgium, Germany, Austria and France. A significant decrease in reported locations Greece and Portugal. Compared employment grew only in Germany, Belgium, Austria and Malta, France stagnated.

Employment in the euro zone Q2 2010 was flat after a decrease of 0.2% in the first quarter of this year. Number of economically active population reached 220.7 million and decreased by 0.6%. New jobs generated by the service sector only.
