The post of Chief of the IMF is interested and Stanley Fischer

JERUSALEM (MEDIAFAX) - The Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will apply and the Israeli central bank governor Stanley Fischer (67). Informed the agency said.

Fischer said that he had submitted his candidacy.

"There's an extraordinary and unplanned opportunity that may never be repeated, and compete for the post of head of the IMF. After long consideration I have decided and I want to finish it," Fischer said in a statement.

The current favorite for this post is the French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde, has interest in the Mexican central bank chief Agustin Carstens.The new chief will replace the IMF Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who in May resigned from his post due to accusations of rape in a New York hotel maid. The post of Executive Director of the IMF should be clear by the end of June.

Fischer is the Governor of the Bank of Israel since 2005. In the past, he held leading functions such as the World Bank, was the Deputy Executive Director of the IMF.
