Iberia pilots to reduce wages by 20 percent and extend their working hours by 25 percent

MADRID (MEDIAFAX) - Spanish airline Iberia on Tuesday announced that it will reduce wages by 20 percent of pilots and extend their working hours by 25 percent. Informed the AFP.

This step of Iberia's management aims to save 62 million euros and improve competitiveness of companies.

Iberia is no longer in dispute with pilots, and this step relations between unions and management is likely to further deteriorate.

Iberia airline pilots in late March announced that from 9 April to 20 July every Monday and Friday organize a strike in protest of low cost airlines Iberia Express. Employees of Iberia in recent months has organized several strikes, resulting in hundreds of canceled flights.

Express Iberia had to take on most domestic connections and lines for medium-long distances, and employ new pilots and cabin attendants received flight attendants and at a lower salary. Unions fear that because of a new subsidiary company ceases to exist up to 8000 jobs. Management argues that the emergence of Iberia Express does not affect the wages and working conditions of current employees.

Iberia, which is part of International Airlines Group has approximately 20,000 employees.
