CR - retail sales in April fell by 2.1%


Sales in the automotive segment, adjusted for seasonal influences decreased in real terms in April grew by 2.1%. Revenues adjusted for the number of working days decreased by 4.1% as well as the not seasonally adjusted. The annual decline in sales was reflected in the retail automotive segment.

Seasonally adjusted sales in including retail sales and repair of motor vehicles in April dropped by 2.1% yoy, working day adjusted 4.1%, the same decline in sales was recorded without adjustment. The reduction in sales for the same number of working days this year and last year was due to decreased sales in both retail (-2.2 pp) and in the automotive segment (-1.9 pp), see Table 2

Seasonally adjusted sales in sale and repair of motor vehicles (CZ-NACE 45) decreasedreal mom by 3.8% yoy, working day adjusted and seasonally adjusted decreased by 6.0%. Year-on adjusted sales of motor vehicles (including spare parts) decreased by 6.4% and 3.1% of the repairs.

In retail trade, including the sale of automotive fuel (NACE 47) seasonally adjusted sales at constant prices grew by 1.4% yoy, working day adjusted 3.2% as both without adjustment. Year-on adjusted sales of fuels decreased by 7.1% and food by 5.8% and non-food goods by 0.2%.

The decline in retail sales was most influenced by the development of food sales. He declined continuously for the twelfth month in April, the decline deepened. The reduction in sales was reported as non-specialized, as well as in specialized stores (6.0%, respectively. 3.5%).The decline, however, recorded sales growth of six months after the sale of food goods, the highest in non-specialized stores with food goods (+7.9%) and in specialized stores with household goods (+2.6%). However, some groups of goods showed an increase in sales. Revived with Internet sales and mail order services with growth of 9.6%, still managed to sell computers and communication equipment (5.9%) and continued growth in sales of clothing and footwear (3.9%) and pharmaceutical health and beauty goods (3.7%).

The price deflator (CZ-NACE 47) to the corresponding period of previous year (excluding VAT) amounted to 101.3% and was influenced mainly by higher fuel prices and food. On the other hand, prices of most stores in the computer and communication equipment.
