Opel will reduce the number of working days this year

German automaker Opel, which is part of GM, announced that it has reached an agreement with unions to reduce the number of days in the German factories this year, the 20th With this step, the automaker seeks to cut costs and reverse the unfavorable economic development while preserving existing jobs within the company.

Opel in 2Q this year underwent additional 361 mill.USD, which shifted its accumulated losses since 1999, already at 16.8 mld.USD. It is estimated that the planned reduction in the number of working days will save around 52 mill.USD automobile.

According to parent GM's Opel current problem mainly produces automobile overproduction or faster than just sell their cars and it is therefore necessary to reduce the number of working days.

GM's European division in the first half of this year, sales declined by 15%, which is more than double the decline in the automotive segment, which reached 6.3%. Manufacturers Association ACEA for the whole year is estimated European sales decline of 7% in the lowest value since 1995.
