Eurozone - confidence in the economy fell more than expected and only a 3-year low


Combined index of business and consumer confidence for the euro area fell in August to 86.1 points compared to July's 87.9 points. The August result is the lowest since August 2009. Market average calculated with a smaller decline to about 87.5 points.

Confidence index in the manufacturing sector fell to -15.3 points compared to -15.1 points from July. The August figure is the lowest since December 2009. Future expectations index deteriorated from -7.7 to -8.6 points.
Confidence in services fell to -10.8 points compared to the July -8.5 point. Index of consumer confidence increased year low, when dropped to -24.6 -21.5 points compared to the previous point. Experienced a decline in confidence as construction.

The main reason is the deepening debt crisis, which significantly adversely affects the economic activity in the region.
