U.S. - Retail sales rose in November, but less than expected

Retail sales in the U.S. rose in November by 0.3% compared to the same the October decline. Average market expectations were set to grow by 0.5% in the overall estimates range from +0.1 to +2%. The growth in revenues was limited mainly by a fall in sales at gas stations, which was the result of lower prices of fuel.

Sales growth recorded 10 of the 13 segments monitored. Top car dealers led to an increase of 1.4% and 2.5% growth in electronic outlets and growth of 0.9% for clothing retailers.
Supermarkets fared worst with a decline in sales of 0.9%.

Cars and light commercial vehicles sold in November at 15.5 million in annual recalculation, which was the biggest since February 2008. Ford sales in November rose by 6.4% and 3.4% GM.
Sales and service petrol stations in November fell by 4%, which is the biggest drop or December 2008. The average price of gasoline in November dropped by nearly 10% to $ 3.44 per gallon.

Retail automotive sector without the second month in a row in fact only stagnated.

Sales of building materials increased by 1.6%. The total retail excluding the automotive sector, fuel and construction materials rose by 0.5% compared with October stagnation. This information is used in the calculation of GDP.
