Westinghouse, on the completion of Temelin worked with CTU, safety is a priority project


PRAGUE (MEDIAFAX) - Agreement of Understanding with the Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) signed a U.S. company Westinghouse tendering for contracts centuries, the completion of Units 3 and 4 of the Temelin plant. The advantages offered by the project, according to Thursday's statement of safety and advanced technology.

The agreement covers cooperation with several faculties of the University (Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Science and Physical Engineering, and the Faculty of Information Technology) in fields that are closely related to completion of the Temelin nuclear power plant and the technology offered by the American Westinghouse AP1000.

The agreement is the agreement that the land will CTU series of lectures and seminars on the AP1000 reactor technology on which they will be involved leading experts on nuclear technology and its licensing of the Westinghouse and itspartner companies. In addition, the agreement gives students the chance to participate in the CTU internationally recognized summer internship at the headquarters of the American Westinghouse Pennsylvania. Westinghouse and its partners also utilize expertise of CTU in several specialized areas of the project completion of Temelin, for example in the area calculation, calculations and testing materials.

"The Czech Republic has a long tradition in the use of nuclear energy and nuclear know-how, and this deal brings the company Westinghouse and its partners with one of the best Czech institutions of higher technical education," said Vice President of Business Development for Westinghouse Sandy Rupprecht.

Agreement of Understanding signed at the same time also members of Toshiba Corporation and Metrostav who, in case of success of the U.S. Westinghouse will participate in the completion of a nuclear power plant."As a leading supplier of energy production systems, we look forward to a fruitful exchange of information with CTU," said Kiyoshi Okamura, Vice President of Toshiba Corporation.

CTU Rector Vaclav Havlicek said that he is very glad that CTU, as one of the oldest technical universities in the world and the leading technical university in the Czech Republic, has been invited by a consortium of Westinghouse, Toshiba and Metrostav to become a consultant in the construction of nuclear power plants. "I believe that our cooperation will lead to an increase in the quality and safety of Czech nuclear power plants. I am also convinced that enhances the quality of research and educational activities at the University," he added.

The energy group CEZ announced a public tender for Temelin third August. 2009thBy spring 2010, after three qualified candidates, which are then held in October 2011 negotiations concerning all aspects of the contract. Interest from the U.S. company Westinghouse, Areva French and Czech-Russian consortium MIR.1200. Of 5 ČEZ October, however, excluded from the competition and are now AREVA decided only between the Russian and American menu. Nevertheless, the French candidate appealed against exclusion and to play him so he could still return to the Office for Protection of Economic Competition, which oversees the entire process. The actual signing of the contract to the most expensive contract in history (more than 200 billion dollars) is scheduled for the end of 2013. Candidates promise while over 70 percent participation of domestic companies.
