Czech Republic - Retail in November fell by 0.6%, larger only interested in PC purchases over the Internet

Sales in the automotive segment, adjusted for seasonal factors fell in November at constant prices by 0.6% yoy adjusted for the number of working days decreased by 3.5%. YoY decline in non-adjusted sales by 1.8% was due to lower sales in the automotive segment and in the retail sector.

Seasonally adjusted sales in retail trade including sale and repair of motor vehicles in November dropped by 0.6% yoy adjusted for working days by 3.5%. Seasonally adjusted sales decreased by 1.8% (there was one working day more than in the same month of 2011). YoY decline in revenues, the automotive segment in the retail trade (see Table 2).

Seasonally adjusted sales in sale and repair of motor vehicles (CZ-NACE 45) decreasedactually decreased by 0.8% yoy adjusted for working days was 5.8%. seasonally adjusted sales dropped by 3.0%, of which 3.1% of the repair and sale of motor vehicles (including spare parts) by 2 , 9%.

In retail sales including automotive fuel (CZ-NACE 47), seasonally adjusted sales at constant prices fell by 0.6% yoy adjusted for working days was 2.4%. Seasonally adjusted sales dropped by 1.3%, of which fuel mass by 2.9%, non-food goods by 1.2% and food by 0.7%.

The drop in retail sales contributed the most to lower sales of household goods (which includes sell appliances, furniture, home accessories, hardware, building materials) by 5.5%. Sale of fuel could not revive mom drop their prices.Continued decline in the sale of food in specialized and non-specialized stores (-4.8%, respectively. 0.4%), and after thirteen months of continuous growth declined slightly also selling clothing and footwear (0.3%). Higher interest shown by consumers only to purchases of computer and communication equipment (6.3%) and goods sold over the Internet or through mail order houses (6.0%). Products for culture, sport and recreation and pharmaceutical, medical and cosmetic products showed only a slight increase (+0.2%, respectively. 0.1%).

Price deflator (CZ-NACE 47) to the corresponding period of the previous year (excluding VAT) amounted to 100.1%. Compared to October 2012 decreased by 0.8 percentage points year on year price increases were recorded for fuel and food, while the majority of non-food goods prices continued to drop, most notably in the range of computer and communications equipment.
