Inflation 2012: 3.3%. Prices increased energy, water and rents

The increase in prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages caused the increase in prices of fruit by 11.3%, vegetables by 5.5%, bread and cereals by 0.5%. In housing increased net rents in rented dwellings by 1.0% due to an increase in regulated rents by 2.9%. The 'health' drug prices and fees paid by 0.7%.

A reduction in the price level came primarily for the third month continued decline in fuel prices, which in December was 2.3%. Price of Natural 95 (35.11 CZK / l) was the lowest since December 2011 and the price of diesel (35.82 CZK / l) from July 2012. Clothing prices fell by 1.2% and footwear by 1.4%. In 'communications', prices of telecommunication services by 0.6% and prices of mobile phones by 0.9%.The decline in prices of other goods and services affect the price reduction of personal care by 1.0%.

Prices of alcoholic beverages fell by 0.8%, the prices of spirits by 1.5%.

Prices of goods in total decreased by 0.1%, while prices of services rose 0.1%.

Annual inflation

Year on year increase in consumer prices in December by 2.4%, which is 0.3 percentage points less than in November. The slowdown was mainly in food and non-alcoholic beverages, housing, health, and especially mom due to a considerable increase in prices in these sections in December 2011.

Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages slowed growth in prices of bread and cereals to 0.8% (from 1.3% in November), meat, to 8.7% (from 10.2% in November), eggs to 27.6% (from 38.3% in November), cheese to 0.2% (from 3.2% in November), yoghurt to 1.8% (from 4.2% inNovember), cocoa to 4.9% (from 9.4% in November), coffee to 5.7% (from 8.1% in November). Prices of oils and fats from the rise by 0.6% in November, a decrease of 2.5% in December.

In 'health significantly reduced prices for hospital care to 1.6% from 45.0% in November due to increased charge for hospital stays from December 2011.

Similarly, in housing slowed down natural gas prices to 4.3% (from 7.7% in November) as a result of price increases from December 2011.

Slowdown in transport caused primarily by fuel prices, which were higher by 0.6% (in November by 3.1%). In 'other goods and services, prices of personal care by 1.1% (in November by 1.7%).

Decisive impact on the amount of the total annual level of consumer prices in December were despite the slowdown in the growth in prices of housing, water, electricity, fuel and prices of food and non-alcoholic drinks. In housing were higher gas prices by 4.3%, electricity by 4.2%, water 12.0%, 10.7% of sewage, heat and hot water by 8.4%. Net rents rose by 4.3%, with 11.6% of regulated and market prices by 1.0%.

The reduction in the price growth came from 'clothing and footwear, where prices of clothing fell by 3.4% and footwear by 2.0%. In 'communications', prices of telecommunication services by 5.5% and prices of mobile phones by 10.4%.

The decline in prices of housing and household equipment were mainly lower prices of instruments and household appliances by 4.8%.

Total prices of goods and the prices of services rose by 2.3%. Overall consumer price index excluding imputed rent was up 102.4%.

The average rate of inflation, the increase in the consumer price index in 2012, compared with the average in 2011 was 3.3%, which is 1.4 percentage points more than in 2011 and the highest value in the last four years.


Average increase in the harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP)) 27 EU member states, according to preliminary data of Eurostat in November 2.4%, which is 0.2 percentage points less than in October. The highest annual rates in Hungary (5.3%) and the lowest in Greece (0.4%). In Germany, the price growth slowed in November to 1.9% from 2.1% in October. Also in the Slovak Republic in November to slowdown to 3.5% from 3.9% in October.According to preliminary calculations, the increase in the HICP in December 2012 in the Czech Republic mom changed and grew by 2.4% (in November by 2.8%). Consumer prices in December 2012 for pensioner households increased in comparison with the previous month by 0.2%. There was an increase in the consumer price index of food and non-alcoholic beverages by 1.5%. The increase was mainly due to higher prices of fruits and vegetables. Increased the price index for 'health by 0.5%, with particular rose extra payments for prescription drugs. In recreation and culture to increase the level of consumer prices by 0.3%. This was due to the increase in prices of domestic recreation.On the other hand, a lower index of consumer prices in transport by 0.9% mainly due to lower fuel prices. Decrease occurred in the clothing and footwear as well by 0.9% mainly due to lower prices of men's shoes and women's and men's clothing.

In the capital city of Prague has increased overall consumer price index (cost of living) compared to the previous month by 0.1% (0.1% also in the whole country). This development influenced by the rise in the consumer price index of food and non-alcoholic beverages by 1.5% (1.4% in the Czech Republic). This was a result of higher prices of fruit and mineral and spring waters. Prague was also recorded growth in the price level in housing, water, electricity, fuel by 0.6% (0.1% in the Czech Republic) and in particular by increasing the net rent paid by tenants in rented accommodation.On the other hand, it was found to reduce the consumer price index for miscellaneous goods and services by 1.2% (-0.5% in the Czech Republic), which decreased particularly prices of beauty products. The price reduction also occurred in alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 0.9% (-0.3% in the Czech Republic), which was mainly due to decline in prices of spirits and beer.
