Worldwide sales of mobile phones last year fell by 1.7% to 1.75 billion units


According to research firm Gartner, worldwide mobile phone sales last year declined by 1.7% to approximately 1.75 billion units, which is the first decline since 2008.

Sales stylish mobile phones in Q4 declined by 19.3% to 264.4 million units. It is expected that sales in 2013 will continue to decline.

Notes further sales growth segment of smart phones, which are only for 4Q of last year, sold 207.7 million units worldwide, representing an annual growth of 38.3%. Gartner expects that in 2013, sales of smart phones could reach close to the magical threshold of one billion pieces. Total sales of mobile phones should then grow to 1.9 billion units.

Dominant role in the market of smartphones Apple and Samsung are playing, their combined share of the overall market in Q4 rose to 52% compared to 46.2% at the end of 3Q12. World leader while one South Korean company, which in 4Q sold 64.5 million smart phones, which corresponded to annual improvement of 85.3%. Samsung's total sales for the full year 2012 amounted to 384.6 million units, of which 53.5% were smartphones (compared to 28% in 2011). Samsung is about 42.5% of the market of smart phones that work with the operating system Android.

Sales of smartphones from Apple in Q4 amounted to 43.5 million devices, representing an annual growth of 22.6%. For the full year 2012 then American company sold a total of 130 million devices. The increasing popularity while enjoying cheaper models, focus on flagship iPhone 5 remained strong.

The third position in 2012 was one of Finland's Nokia, which sales declined by 53.6% to 39.3 million smartphones. Market share of the former leader of the mobile phone sector has fallen to 18%.
