EK reportedly a cut CO2 emissions by 40% by 2030, set out a new draft climate and energy policy

The European Commission has set out a proposal allegedly new climate and energy policy, which aims at reducing CO2 emissions by 40% and increasing the share of renewables to 30% by 2030. The proposal contains no targets for energy savings. Current goals are reducing emissionsby 20% compared to 1990 and share of 20% renewables by 2020 (Reuters). CO2 allowance market has continued to decline, when p ovolenky yesterday fell by a further 4-5% at 3.7 to 3.8 EUR per piece after unsuccessful primary auction of the EU.

This proposal is likely to open a long debate on the objectives
EU energy policy after 2020. Although it is a long process, the opening of this debate could help a little CO2 prices, suggesting that the ETS is still not completely dead. The aim of the Commission is likely to replace the 2020 target new objectives for the year 2030 and then adjust the amount of allowances issued downwards.
