Eurozone - Retail sales in February fell more than expected

Retail sales in the euro area declined in February decreased by 0.3% compared to the January increase of 0.9%.
The market expected a drop of 0.2%. January's figures were revised downwards from pre-notified of growth of 1.2%.

EU-wide retail sales in February were flat compared to the January increase of 0.8%.

Compared revenues declined by 1.4% in the euro area and by 0.2% across the EU.

Revenues from the sale of food, beverages and tobacco in February fell by 0.1%, sales outside the mentioned sectors declined by 1.1%. Compared the food sector fell by 1.8% in the euro area and 1.5% in the EU. Other sectors decreased by 1.5% in the euro area grew respectively by 0.2% in the EU.

Retail sales in Germany rose in February by 0.4% and fell by 2.2% in France. Spanish retail trade fell by 9.7%, Portuguese by 5.3% and by 4.5% in Estonia. While an increase of 17.3% was recorded in Luxembourg retail, by 4.8% in Lithuania and 3.8% in the UK.

Sales at gas stations in the eurozone fell by 0.5% and by 0.3% in the EU.
